How to Find a Sailing Partner

1. Add your name to the STYC Find Sailing Partners list.

Here’s how it works:

A. If you are a member of the St. Thomas Yacht Club, click here, fill out the form and click “Submit”. Your name and contact info will be added to the list and we’ll email you a link.

B.  When you are looking for someone to sail with simply call or  email anyone who has indicated they are generally available to sail on the day or days you’re available.

2. Sign up to crew or skipper in one of our Island Races

This is a great way to meet people and experience the natural beauty that surrounds us here.  Check here for our schedule of Island Races.

3.  Come to one of our Sailing Meet-ups or Adventure Sails

Group sailing events are planned throughout the year. Members may come down and casually sail together for a couple of hours on a weekend morning, then meet back at the club for lunch. Adventure sails often include a swim to shore and a hike. Once or twice a year, the entire club heads out to spend the day sailing to an exotic Caribbean beach for a barbecue, snorkeling and other activities.  Check the Calendar or watch your newsletter for upcoming meet-ups, adventure sails, or other activities then call or email and let us know if you can skipper or crew.

4. Skipper or crew for IC-24 Saturday Racing

We race approximately every other Saturday with non-spinnaker racing in the morning and spinnaker racing in the afternoon, December through April.  Teams are often looking for crew, even if your experience is limited.  If racing appeals to you then let us know and we can help get you on a team. It’s a great way to meet your fellow members and learn more about sailboat racing. See our Calendar for racing schedule. 

5. Skipper or crew for Friday Evening IC-24 Racing

Every Friday from May through early July, IC-24’s race from 5:15 pm to sunset, without spinnakers and with beer!  You are welcome to crew regardless of experience.  It’s a great way to become involved in sailboat racing.
