New To Sailing
Sailing offers a whole new world of excitement, adventure, friendships and fun.
If you’re a newcomer, below are a few of the ways we can help you get started.
Take a Tour
Take a tour. Call or visit the Center anytime. We’re open 9:00am to 5:00pm seven days a week. We are happy to show you our boats and facilities and discuss which of our courses or Boat Access programs would be best for you.
Because every person’s sailing experience is unique, we find that a conversation with our senior staff is often the best way to match your sailing skills and interests with our programs.
Come to one of our Open Houses
Twice each season we offer free sailing and refreshments to everyone. Spend an afternoon at the St. Thomas Yacht Club and go for a sail (or two) with one of our experienced skippers. It’s a great way to get to know our community and experience sailing!
Our first Open House of the season will be Sunday, December 11th, 2022 from 1-4pm with free sailing for everyone! Sailing is first come/first served, come early and get your name on the list, then enjoy the STYC deck and perhaps some lunch. The Galley Grill will open at 11:30.
Learn to sail course
When you’re ready to take the first step, sign up for a Learn to Sail course. This course will give you a thorough introduction to the fundamentals of the sport..
Come try out racing
Many of our racing teams are looking for last minute crew, both on Saturday afternoons from January through the end of April and Friday evenings May through July. Sometimes just being here at the right time can get you onto a racing team, or at least have an opportunity to try it out. Send us an email if you’re interested!

PATH LESS TRAVELED
Racing Vacations
The Virgin Islands in the winter is one of the most amazing sailing venues in the world. Air temperature is 82 every day, the water is warm, blue and beautiful and the wind almost always blows around 10-15 knots out of the East. Our sheltered bay is an exceptional racing area and when we incorporate ‘round the island races into the mix, the scenery is spectacular.
